My Own Trials with Hairstylists
I know that gluten free hairstylists are hard to come by, even I have had trouble finding someone to do my own hair, so this is what I do...
FOR MY OWN HAIR:
1) Find a stylist that is very compassionate, even though he/she may not gluten free, find someone concerned about the safety and health of your hair. I love my hairstylist Harriet, my best hairstylist ever!!!!
2) I only use gluten free hair color, personally I only use Aloxxi color on myself and all allergy clients.
3) I carry my own shampoo and conditioner back to the shampoo bowl and she only uses what I hand over. No mistakes and she doesn't have to have extra pressure.
4) I use my own Monat styling products and styling is done by myself. Again, I insure that all products from color to hairspray are gluten free.
FOR MY CLIENTS:
Color - My clients only are offered Aloxxi Color, it's certified gluten free and vegan.
Shampoo and Conditioner - I always use Monat for shampoo and conditioner, again certified gluten free.
Styling Products - Monat for styling products and I have some select other products that are hand picked like hairsprays that do not have any gluten. (Upcoming post on hairsprays!)
SO WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHEN WALKING INTO A SALON WITHOUT ME?
Sorry, wish I could help everyone but I don't know if flying to Chicago for color and cut is possible!
1) Go to a stylist at a salon that uses Aloxxi haircolor! https://aloxxi.com/salonlocator/search/
2) Bring your own products or call ahead to inquire about what the salon uses. Ask to speak to the stylist you will be working with. (WARNING NOT ALL GLUTEN FREE PRODUCTS ARE CREATED EQUAL...Meaning not all GF shampoo is color safe or healthy, it maybe just void of gluten.) Here's my Monat link, best results of a gluten free line hands down! mymonat.com/marisak
3) Bring your styling products and offer to skip styling if it's a problem for the stylist. Chances are if you call ahead and explain, you will not have any problems.
4) Tip the stylist and hug them, make them your Facebook friend and sing their praises because there needs to be more GF friends in the hair world. Then tag them in my comments section, I'm going to be doing interviews and reviews of other stylists, so please speak up!

What's in my bathroom? AN UPDATE
My Personal Bathroom Stock has great reduced in size these days due to one company alone, Modern Nature. I will explain...
WHY MONAT?
This is my why...
I have been gluten free for 14 year, have had 3 babies and a thinning hair line. My hair is thick but no volume ever! This picture is from June 5, 2015, I had never used Monat before this picture.
This is my why...
Three weeks after the first photo. After a succession of good hair days and lasting curls, I decided to call myself a dedicated Monat client.
Why Monat?
1) CERTIFIED GLUTEN, PARABEN, SULFATE, DEA/MEA, PHTHALATE FREE (and the list goes on)
2) Anti-aging hair care meaning it fills in what your hair is missing...my hair has gone thru some stress and damage. I see less frizz, more body and less styling over all.
3) Regrowth of hair - Monat is clinically proven to regrow hair. How awesome is regrowth of healthy better hair!
4) Organic and Naturally based...that's a win in my book. I prefer to lessen the amount of daily chemicals I have to be in contact with.
So, since I am so convinced of this awesome product and to love Monat so much, I have had a direct link set up for all to test it out. If you add a comment with your email address, I am happy to share additional information with anyone in the US and Canada. Or you can go directly to the website I set up with Monat (because I am an addict)... mymonat.com/marisak

5 Questions to ask a Hairstylist PRIOR to walking in the salon
Here is a list of questions to ask a salon/hair professional PRIOR to being in their chair, at the mercy of the time available for each client.
1) Do you have knowledge of gluten free hair color and products?
2) What product and color lines are you personally carry in your salon?
3) What color lines would you use on a gluten free client?
4) Do you have any other regular clients who are gluten free?
5) Do you do consultations with clients to discuss color and safety?
Now I know I am being tough on my own kind. But if you the client, do not ask the right questions prior to color being mixed or being lead to the shampoo area, there is a good chance you will have a unfortunate reaction!
Think of this as being a restaurant experience, as the allergy world knows we have to do homework! We ask questions, google menus, check reviews, we will even speak to the chef. But at a certain point, our meal is at the mercy of the staff in the dining establishment. Same rules about your hair.
Most stylists do not have the foreknowledge that there is gluten in hair color, most have never had a blistered scalp from hairspray so the client needs to be the educator.
Good night gluten free world,
